The Incidence of Deliveries and Conception

Below are appended a table and a chart showing the incidence of deliveries according to months. It is, I think, every doctor's experience in female hospitals especially maternity hospitals that less deliveries take place in winter and more in autumn. This study was undertaken with a view to finding out the correct variations. The record presented is of deliveries which took place between 1942 and 194S in this hospital. These were mostly deliveries at full term. From this study it appears that the lowest incidence of deliveries is in the months of February, March and April and highest in August, September and October which means that conception takes place more often in the months of November, December and January and least often in the months of May, June and July. Similar studies by others may perhaps throw some light on conception.
